No mystery here: it’s a friction folder... made from a file. There's probably a joke in there somewhere.
I am not seeking any awards for design on this one. The goal was to keep the design simple: no locking, no bearings, just cheap and accessible materials. The handle was made from natural canvas micarta. The space at the butt end of the knife is actually a piece of aged leather glued to a thin section of Jade G10. Together they were exactly the thickness of the file. The pivot is just a simple coated "Chicago-screw-knock-off" courtesy of Amazon.
Ultimately, I sanded the micarta to 1200 grit then buffed on a felt belt with blue Dico polish. The blade itself was hollow ground with a 10" wheel and stonewashed. I textured the spine to add some character. Was just throwing different design techniques at it and playing around. The el-cheapo pivot was lightly sanded, hand-buffed with an abrasive pad then cold-blued to darken the steel. The stop pin is a scrap piece of aluminum.
Overall I am quite happy with the result and can't wait to make another.
